Blackpool Tower

When it opened, Blackpool Tower was the tallest man made structure in the British Empire at 518 feet (158 metres) tall. Blackpool Tower is also the common name for the Tower Buildings, an entertainment complex in a red-brick three-storey block that comprises the tower, Tower Circus, the Tower Ballroom, and roof gardens.

Blackpool Grand Theatre

Since 2006, The Grand Theatre has also been known as the National Theatre of Variety and is a Grade II Listed Building. It was designed by Victorian architect Frank Matcham and was opened in 1894 after a construction period of seven months, at a cost of £20,000 between December 1893 and July 1894.

Blackpool Pleasure Beach

Blackpool Pleasure Beach is an amusement park situated on Blackpool’s South Shore. When it opened in 1994, The Big One was the tallest roller coaster in the world. It was also the steepest, with an incline angle of 65° and the second fastest with a top speed of 74 miles per hour (119 km/h).

Blackpool Illuminations

Blackpool Illuminations is an annual lights festival, founded in 1879 and first switched on 18 September that year. Also known locally as The Lights or The Illuminations, they run each year for sixty-six days, from late August until early November.

Funny Girls

Funny Girls is a burlesque cabaret showbar on the North Shore of Blackpool. The cast of the show comprise male dancers and drag performers. The showbar is in what was once the Blackpool Odeon, which was Odeon’s largest original cinema in the UK.

Winter Gardens

The Winter Gardens is a large entertainment complex which includes a theatre, ballroom and conference facilities. Opened in 1878, the Winter Gardens has hosted the annual conferences of British political parties and trade unions and its owners claim that every Prime Minister since World War II has addressed an audience at the venue.

The Sandcastle

Sandcastle Waterpark is an indoor waterpark in an 84-degree tropical climate. It is home to the world’s longest indoor roller-coaster water slide, the Master Blaster, and the first vertical indoor drop slide Sidewinder.

Blackpool Zoo

The 32-acre Blackpool Zoo provides a home to over 1,350 animals from all over the world. The Zoo features a ‘Dinosaur Safari’ consisting of 32 life-size dinosaurs around a trail as well as a South American walk through known as ‘Amazonia’.
